Have you been enjoying the first signs of spring? This is a wonderful time of year for gardeners, especially. How thrilling to notice the first spring bulbs shooting up pointy leaves!

For unfixed animals, there is a dark side to these sunnier times. If it’s warm enough for new green in the yard, it’s warm enough for mating season. We’re already getting calls right and left about females in heat—let’s get overpopulation “Snipped in the Bud!”.

This isn’t supposed to be happening yet, but the warm flush we had early in 2006 jump started animals’ dormant reproductive systems. Scientists predict this will be the warmest year in history. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work for the furries!

Since the #1 way to save lives later on in the year is to spay/neuter every critter we can right now, two very special donors have teamed up to offer POPPA supporters a $5000 matching campaign. One of the “Snipped in the Bud!” matching sponsors is Roth Built, at www.rothbuilthomes.com. Thank you, Melodie and Tim!

How does a matching campaign work? You contribute to POPPA between now and May 31. The matching donors promise to also give, matching your gift dollar for dollar, until they’ve kicked in $5000 and individual donors have kicked in $5000—for a total of $10,000 to help the critters get “Fixed in ’06.” We know that’s a lot of money; together we can do it!

We’re really excited about this opportunity to actually enjoy gardening season without worrying about unwanted or sick litters of newborns. Since POPPA’s average level of assistance is about $30, a matching donation means that every $15 gives an at-risk pet the lifesaving gift of spay/neuter, just when they need it most. Matching doubles the Payment…
and the Spay-ment!
