In lieu of my writing a June blog for POPPA, I'm sending this notice from one of our fellow animal groups, Indigo Rescue, that is a plug for their upcoming FUNdraiser. Indigo has partnered with POPPA every year to put on the Tom and Mom Cat Special for Spay Day, as well as at the Portland International Beerfest, so we feel good about throwing our support behind them now by asking every one of you to join us at this comedy show!

Hello Indigo Rescue friends and supporters,

At the risk of sounding desperate (and repetitive), I am reminding you
all again about our upcoming Elayne Boosler/Dennis Blair comedy
show, which is only a little more than one week away, on Saturday June
20th at the Roseland Theater, check out our website: www.indigorescue.org for all of the details about the show.
There will be an auction, a raffle to win $10,000 in Visa Gift Cards, and two book signings. Elayne Boosler is one of the funniest women alive and Dennis Blair opened for George Carlin for 18 years. Both
national comedians are hysterical and this promises to be a really
great show!!!

We understand that we are in an economic slump, and that Oregon has the
second highest unemployment rate in the country, but we have to
survive! We have to work even harder to have a successful event and
raise the money we need to keep doing our important work. We're trying
valiantly to sell our show out, and we've done really well with the VIP tickets and pretty well with the Reserved tickets, but the $25 General Admission Tickets are selling slowly...we just don't have the size of support network that OHS and Dove Lewis have. So, we had an idea. We want to offer General Admission tickets to all animal organization volunteers and supporters for just $10! The regular
price is $25. and there really aren't any bad seats at the Roseland so even a GA seat will be a great seat. Truthfully, I just can't imagine
why everyone wouldn't want to come see a comedy show with two national
comedians, even if they don't know Indigo Rescue or care about
animals. It's a big opportunity during a difficult time when we don't
have much to laugh about!

POPPA is actively seeking someone willing to volunteer from home responding to calls and email requests we receive for spay/neuter assistance. The full job description is below, but basically it consists of spending a good 10-15 hours a month on the telephone collecting contact info, making referrals to veterinarians, and then requesting checks from our treasurer. However, sometimes we also get calls from folks threatening to harm animals if we don't agree to take them off their hands altogether, but we are NOT a shelter, so this volunteer will have to maintain his/her composure and try to diffuse these situations by referring folks to sheltering organizations. So, if you're a real "people person" with a gift for gab and some time on your hands, and you feel you can handle both the responsible caregivers that just need a little financial assistance, as well as the problem people, please reply to me, Keni Cyr-Rumble, POPPA's President and founder, at info@POPPAinc.org. SPAY/NEUTER FUND DISTRIBUTION COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

At least once every 48 hours, download spay/neuter assistance requests from voice mail system and/or email box. Return calls and/or otherwise reply to potential fund recipients. Determine level of financial need and whether recipient qualifies for other programs or can afford co-pay. Collect contact info and provide referral to local veterinarian, if appropriate. Submit check requests to treasurer for processing every Friday.

Follow up with POPPA recipients approximately 3 weeks after our check was mailed asking if the animal(s) were fixed, how the experience went, if they'd like to learn more about volunteer opportunities, and if any other animals have surfaced that need spay/neuter. Access recipient reports from centrally accessible database. Follow up can be made either via email or phone contact.

Follow up with vets who perform surgeries for POPPA. Verify the spay/neuter amount, discover if there are any leftover POPPA funds from the surgeries, and ensure that no POPPA leftover funding was used, nor will be used for anything other than s/n. Initially send each clinic we use a POPPA Vet Policy document, which is an introduction to our policies and procedures.

Time Commitment Requirement: Approximately 5 hrs/wk, or 20 hrs/mth
