POPPA, Inc is an independent all volunteer run 501(c)3 non-profit. We offer a statewide spay/neuter referral and assistance program for the state of Oregon. We are not affiliated with nor do we receive funding from any branch of the government, Humane Society, or County Animal Control Agency. We rely entirely on grants and private donations to fund our programs.

Thank you for making the responsible decision to have the neighborhood stray or your companion cat, rabbit or ferret altered and/or deciding to help a neighbor, friend or family member get their companion animal altered. PLEASE keep reading to find out exactly how to find a low-cost or no-cost spay/neuter option.

If you are not convinced that sterilization IS the greatest gift you can give your companion animal, check out the links to the right for information on the many benefits of spaying and neutering.

1. Contact your regular veterinary clinic and check their rates.

There are several reasons you should use your regular vet to have your companion animal(s) altered. The primary reason being he or she knows the animal's health history and can recommend other procedures that the animal may need. If the animal is a stray, rescue, in a multi-pet situation or in a feral cat colony your regular veterinarian may offer a low-cost spay/neuter option if you simply ask.

If you need to find a veterinarian, please contact these agencies:
Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA)

Find a Vet Service
or the
Oregon Department of Agriculture

Veterinary Search utility.

2. How to locate a low-cost spay neuter clinic in the Portland metro area.

The Oregon Spay Neuter Fund distributes a coupon good for discounted spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats at several Portland area veterinary clinics (noted on coupon). The coupon can be downloaded here. An appointment is required for surgery.

Companion Pet Clinics always offer low-cost spays and neuters. Some may require a rabies shot which costs extra and they also offer additional services in conjunction with the surgery that may cost additional money. Companion Pet Clinics are individually owned so please contact them to verify their requirements and rates before setting up an appointment.

3. If you are in the Portland area:

For cats only, contact Animal Aid at 503-292-6628 as they are handling the calls for cat spays or neuters funded by POPPA. NOTE--Depending on their current rate of donations, Animal Aid may also have money available to loan you for dog fixes and/or other life-saving surgeries.

For dogs or cats, contact the Oregon Humane Society at 503-285-7722 and ask them about their SNAP coupons for tame cats or the Spay/Neuter loan program.

For feral (untame) cats contact the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon at 503-797-2606.

4. If you are in Marion or Polk counties:

For cats contact the Willamette Humane Society about their Save the Felines Certificate for $25. See their website for qualifications. Otherwise contact Salem Friends of Felines at 503-581-9444.

5. For other areas or for assistance with dogs please see:
