Spay Neuter Information

POPPA, Inc is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit. We offer a statewide spay/neuter referral and assistance program for the state of Oregon. We are not affiliated with nor do we receive funding from any Humane Society or County Animal Control. We rely on grants, private donations and plant sales at Recycled Gardens to continue this service.

So you made the responsible decision to have the neighborhood stray or your companion dog, cat, rabbit or ferret altered or you would like to help a neighbor, friend or family member get their companion animal altered. Who do you call for help when you need to find a low-cost or no-cost spay/neuter option?

Please read the options below.   If you are still not convinced, see the links to the right for information on the benefits of spaying and neutering.

1. Contact your regular veterinary clinic and check their rates.

There are several reasons you should use your regular vet to have your cat, dog, rabbit or ferret altered. The primary reason being he or she knows the animal's health history and can recommend other procedures that the animal may need. If the animal is a stray, rescue, in a multi-pet situation or in a feral cat colony your regular veterinarian may offer a low-cost spay/neuter option if you ask. If you need to find a veterinarian see the
Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA)

Find a Vet Service
or the
Oregon Department of Agriculture

Veterinary Search utility.

2. How to locate a low-cost spay neuter clinic in the Portland metro area.

The Oregon Spay Neuter Fund distributes a coupon good for discounted spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats at several Portland area veterinary clinics (noted on coupon). The coupon can be downloaded here. An appointment is required for surgery.

Companion Pet Clinics always offer low-cost spays and neuters. Some may require a rabies shot which costs extra and they also offer additional services in conjunction with the surgery that may cost additional money. Companion Pet Clinics are individually owned so please contact them to verify their requirements and rates before setting up an appointment.
